Since 1992. PCC has been making efforts to aid the people in the Throggs Neck community, especially for those dealing with financial strife. The newest addition to the many programs offered by PCC are ESL classes. We first realized the need for such a program when trying to communicate with the parents of children enrolled in one or more programs at PCC. This lead to research each which found that 73% of the people living in Throggs neck Housing have a native language other than English.
This Program offers a free class room environment with 4 teachers and a class cap of 20 people. What makes this unique from other ESL Programs is that each student is only required to pay the cost of the book materials and has access to the course free of charge at a local and convenient place, Throggs neck Housing in Kipps Bay.
The classes are 2 hours a day; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00am to 11:00 am. Currently there is both a level 1 and a level 2 course.
Our Program is operated with the intent of teaching each student how to read, write, and speak in English, like the courses found in a High school such as Preston. However, the main goal is to help these parents to be able to communicate with their community and the school system.
